One of my interviewees for my solar cooking series said "I'm a [solar] thermal guy." Well Doug Danley is "a PV Guy," all the way, and has gone all in researching PV-to-Induction cookers--their costs, efficiencies, their ease of use and adoption. His SunSpotPV cooker system is--well, a system. An induction cooker is part of a box that includes USB ports, a battery, and a PV panel. His aim is to get these into the hands of families in rapidly deforesting countries, areas with atrocious rates of water-borne diseases, and where fossil fuel and dung-cooking indoors (and outdoors) are turning the cooks in the family to pack-a-day smokers. If his and a dozen other social enterprise groups build on the traction they have already gained, it looks like many regions will get a healthy jump-start on energy independence.
