    Hi All,


    ASES SOLAR 2022 Conference Albuquerque is almost a month away! I want to send a quick reminder that there are still open spots to volunteer for the conference. Please check out the details below:


    SOLAR 2022: Energy Transition with Economic Justice, will be held June 21-24 (extra events on other days too) in person at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and online in a hybrid conference format. There will be two full days of content and technical sessions on June 22 and 23, featuring a Keynote on the Government's Role in the Renewable Energy Transformation, Economic Justice Tracks, technical Grid & PV sessions, and many others. Additionally, the conference will feature a closing keynote session, virtual and in-person tours of solar facilities, NABCEP certified solar installer workshops, a Solar Fiesta, and much more.     Albuquerque to Host the National Solar Conference in June

    Albuquerque – May 17, 2022 – Registration is open for the American Solar Energy Society's (ASES) 51st Annual National Solar Conference, SOLAR 2022, at the University of New Mexico and online. The theme of this year's conference is "Energy Transition with Economic Justice." Further, ASES is partnering with their New Mexico Chapter, the New Mexico Solar Energy Association (NMSEA), which is celebrating 50 years of achievements.

    "We feel the impact of climate change in our everyday life with ever increasing extreme weather events. What used to be a 100-year event is becoming an annual occurrence. Solar energy is a huge part of the solution," said Dr. Ashok Ghosh, ASES Conference chairperson, President of New Mexico Solar Energy Association and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at NM Tech.

    "NMSEA is organizing the SOLAR 2022 national conference along with the American Solar Energy Society to showcase and exchange strategies for implementing clean energy and to celebrate our history in New Mexico where much of solar energy developed was pioneered- from Indigenous peoples building technologies to photovoltaics at National labs and universities."

    ASES will be welcoming everyone to the conference at the Opening Reception on Tuesday, June 21. The Reception will feature the father of modern linguistics and most cited scholar in modern history, Noam Chomsky and a line-up of New Mexico's social-change poets and activists. Other highlights include
    1. Wednesday, June 22 – Governments' Role in the Renewable Energy Transformation featuring Governor Michelle Lujan GrishamSenator Martin HeinrichRon Darnell from PNM and Dave Renné, Past President of the International Solar Energy Society. This is also Community Solar Day, with presentations from around the U.S. and a room set aside for community solar networking.
    2. Thursday, June 23 – Ensuring a Just & Equitable Transformation featuring Shalanda Baker, Deputy Director for Energy Justice at the Department of Energy (DOE), Wahleah Johns, Director of the U.S. DOE Office of Indian Energy, Jonathan Nez, President of the Navajo Nation and Nicole Sitaraman, from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The agenda features more on Community Solar, plus an evening event celebrating the New Mexico Solar Energy Association's 50th Anniversary!
    3. Friday, June 24 – Solar Design, Architecture and the Future of Solar Education featuring Ed Mazria, founder of Architecture 2030, Sandra Begay, UNM Regent & Principal Member of the Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories, Dan Arvizu, New Mexico State University (NMSU) Chancellor and Gigi Goldman and Hal Aronson co-founders of We Share Solar. On Friday, UNM's Cornell Mall will come alive with NMSEA's Free Solar Fiesta, including solar and EV exhibits, a solar cooking village, music, workshops, and family fun. Free parking  at UNM.     Conference attendees include tribal and government leaders, technical and policy experts, architects, scientists, engineers, students, interested public and the visionaries who help lead our society through an equitable energy transition. The cost of the full conference includes a 15% discount for basic ASES members, a 25% discount for professional and business members and a 70% discount for students. Special dinners and tours are available, as well as the Free Solar Fiesta. There also will be a one-day pass option and virtual registration; details are pending. See the website for updates.
