  • 1.  Adding storage after panels are installed

    Posted 06-07-2025 08:25 AM

Hello: I signed a contract with Blue Raven Solar to install solar panels on my roof. They did the work, and I started producing energy 6 months ago. Now, I'm thinking I'd like to add storage to my system. Do I need to work with Blue Raven to do that? Is it possible to work with another provider?

Are you happy with the panel install?

Is there some limitation you perceive on them that they can not handle adding storage?

Generally speaking, when you contract "someone' for a job and the job is "good", you stick with them.

But can you jump rafts in the rapids... sure..

There are many variables but typically storage can be added, FranklinWH has a nice AC coupled solution, and it can be from another company.  But I would need to know more about your install before one can give a definitive answer.  For example if you have a SolarEdge system it may be easier to add a SolarEdge battery.

We went with a different installer a few years ago when adding a few
more panels and a Sonnen backup unit. Only reason was the $1000
difference between the original installer's quote and a second company.
Have had no problems from this arrangement. I call the whichever
installer did the work on a problem part. In fact, I believe that
Enphase microinverter failures, which were covered by the Enphase
warranty, may have had one company replacing the inverters on panels
    installed by both.
