  • 1.  Current State of Solar Thermal Industry

    Posted 08-09-2023 09:50 AM

Has anyone recently written any articles about the current state of solar thermal? I'm a big fan and have had several systems over the years. I have two projects coming up where thermal would be an excellent fit...but getting information from any of the companies offering thermal systems is less than desirable.

I don't think solar thermal is dead! And I'd like to keep investing in it as a piece of the renewable energy puzzle. But I would like to be working with a company or two that is active...that will answer the phone, return calls, and reply to emails within the week!

    Any feedback appreciated.

I have been working with thermal for a long time. I imported evacs from China. A good product. But unless you can lump together enough cash for at least a 20' container (60+ units), you cannot get up to bat. Most people today just use PV because the PV energy level use is much higher (Electricity). And over production can get net metered in some states, so there is no maxing out storage, etc..

I agree it is a fabulous source of energy. It just is not a very good business case unless you have already achieved size (Business size) and can get into commercial systems, and have no problem bringing over containers (Goes to economies to scale pricing). Additionally you never have leaking pipes with electricity. Solar thermal is a plumbing project, except for hot air panels.

    Freezing climates additional issues, etc..

    Best of luck....

I'm not giving up on thermal, just want to know who is currently up and running with a viable business.

SOLAR THERMAL MARKET SIZE & SHARE ANALYSIS - GROWTH TRENDS & FORECASTS (2023 - 2028)

    https://www.mordorintelligence.com/industry-reports/solar-thermal-market

    Solar Thermal Market Analysis

The solar thermal market is expected to witness a CAGR of around 4.5% during the forecast period. The COVID-19 pandemic did not have a visible impact on the solar thermal market. On the contrary, the installed capacity for solar thermal systems increased in 2020 at the global level. The global installed capacity for solar thermal systems was recorded at 6,479 MW in 2020, which was 6,384 MW in 2019. The market is expected to flourish more in the coming years due to the growing demand for renewables-based heating applications in residential and industrial sectors and the reduction in energy bills due to self-energy generation. However, the competition from natural gas as in district heating is expected to restrain the market in the near future.

    ·       The residential segment is expected to dominate the market during the forecast period due to the growth in solar district heating plant installations in many parts of the world.

    ·       The introduction of solar heating systems for industrial processes places tremendous opportunities for market development. Many companies have successfully experimented with the commercial viability of solar heating systems in the commercial and industrial sectors. The best example is the Solar Payback Project initiated by Bundesverband Solarwirtschaft e. V., the German solar association, recently promoted the use of Solar Heat for Industrial Processes (SHIP) in four countries, namely India, Brazil, Mexico, and South Africa.

    ·       The European region is expected to witness the highest growth during the forecast period due to the falling cost of solar heating technologies in European countries.
