I had a pleasant forward-looking interview about solar cooking on Nate Hagen's "Great Simplification" podcast series last week. Nate focuses on energy issues, with a bead on the eventual decline in fossil fuels and the challenges facing the world due to an overdependence on same. I dropped a lot of names who have been deep into solar cooking, much longer than me.  Luther Krueger: "Goldilocks Tech? A Solar Oven Overview"

Interesting topic. The main issue with solar thermal cooking is the lack of convenience to cook indoor.

If solutions such as reflecting sunlight to indoor receiver or using a fluid pipe to transfer heat to indoor pot can be done cost effectively, this might help to boost the adoption of solar thermal cooking.

In any case solar PV cooking, with these small electric rice cookers is gaining quick traction in the developing world.

Electrification of cooking might be the short answer to the problem.

There are many examples of cookers that can be inserted into a window or an equator facing-wall for those who have sunlight shining on their homes:

The Barbara Kerr/Sherry Cole "Through-The-Wall" solar oven is celebrated by many in the solar cooking community, likely it is rare that it is actually installed in homes (though I think it should be standard) due to building regulations and lack of knowledge regarding "defenestration" to make sure the inserted cooker doesn't let rain in. Here is Monty Cunningham's tour of the Kerr-Cole Sustainable Living Center from 6:00 to 8:04 he shows the exterior and interior views of this amazing cooker: Kerr TTW Solar Oven  At least one off-grid sustainability center couple has included a Kerr TTW cooker in their home (16:43-17:17 -- Ampersand">https://youtu.be/ZdJY4NNq19M">Ampersand Project TTW

I gave a shot at the same idea, for my workshop/studio side of my garage, which gets unobstructed sun on its equator-facing wall:  SunPortal Wall-Inset Solar Oven

High-rise dwellers aren't left out either--Milind Kulkarni, an inventor, and Chakku Chakravarthy's team at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay have come up with cookers that can be inserted from windows or clamped to a balcony rail:  Kulkarni's Sun Dish  and IIT Bombay Window/Balcony Solar Cooker

Power companies would hate this one which provides heat for cooking and comfort, Sheffler and other solar thermal solutions put together for numerous institutions and campuses in India by Deepak Gadhia - Gadhia Solar Systems

Not lastly as I'm sure there are many more, but a homesteading "penny-pinching" podcaster has come up with an ingenious window room solar thermal heater that gets hot enough to cook with: Frugal Green Girl Window Cooker

There are others with more complex designs that are a ways off before they are "ready for prime time" but this one should inspire others to also come up with ways to make solar cookers that are indoor appliances: Hoffmann "Solar Z"

Highly recommend all who read my notes about solar cooking, that you bookmark this link ASAP and find your own solar cooking solution--it's the SCI Wiki and their team has been accumulating the best information on the topic for decades: Solar Cooking Wiki
