ASES is 70 years old this year! Thanks to Carly for the email announcement.

1954 was the year that Bell Labs patented a PV cell, but it was also the year that Farrington Daniels took his first UNESCO-funded trip around the world to discuss and demonstrate solar thermal devices, which were better known at the time. He was also organizing the Solar Energy Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The lab was finally established in 1955 and is still going strong. There is a nice story about Daniels, a true solar pioneer and author of Direct Uses of the Sun's Energy, at https://nap.nationalacademies.org/read/4548/chapter/6#118
