Quick question regarding the Inflation Reduction Act. I am finding conflicting information on one piece of the solar tax credits across several sources, that is whether unused Solar Investment Tax Credits carry forward. Do you know if they carry forward as they always have or has this option been removed in the IRA?

    thank you,

    Hi Brynne,
I read so much of the back-in-forth at first and then began to see more of the bill itself. The ITC looked very robust and I believe the carry-forward was in place as well as better terms for nonprofits. One upgrade not in the media would be the investment in transmission lines which gives a nod to utility income as well as how electrify everything will work out. Much of the bill leaves me thinking it's leveraging old and new political campaign funding. We have to work far faster on solutions. We have to increase demand full court non stop. Incentives bring in the crowd ready to give solar another black eye. The incentives traditionally run over the mom and pop businesses. They pop up under National Names, set up big phone rooms, then disappear with many systems installed incorrectly on roofs. Often the systems are over-sized and Have No Battery Back Up. Government authorities get no new employees to handle lengthy permitting much less do states or counties examine the system at cut-over. There's a group within ASES against incentives for all these reasons and several more. They changed my mind!

There is a lot in there.  This week there are several accounting firms holding webinars to go into the details.  I find the fact that there is an option to get 40% or even a 45% ITC, an option for a Solar Production Tax Credit, the direct pay option for non profits and new transfer abilities to be the most interesting.  A lot of going to be changing in the Tax Equity world for Commercial and Utility Scale Solar.
