K.I.S.S.

K.I.S.S. is known to many as, "Keep It Simple Stupid". It is a very old expression that explains the engineering postulate that the fewer the parts a system has, the greater the possibly that the system WILL NOT fail. It probably is a distant cousin to the saying, "If Its Not Broke, Don't Fix It."

Sometimes a simple statement is just an exercise in oversimplification or lazy brain activity. And sometimes it is in fact really that simple and true.

So, I got the idea to be a thief in the night and hijack that very old KISS and change the last S reference to Solar, creating a new KISS called, "Keep It Simple Solar". OK. So, what might that mean? From an action perspective, I think it could mean produce a single 8-1/2" x 11" single sided piece of paper that shows the major types of solar energy, grid-tie, grid tie backup or off-grid capable, off-grid, solar with EV (Future proof it), etc... The level of presentation should be in keeping with the title acronym.

I googled 'keep it simple solar' and of course got a bunch of hits, but none that linked the KISS acronym to the phrase.

This is just a thought that I had about 15 minutes ago and thought I would throw it out there. I will try and do a very rough draft in a few days or so.

The goal of this is to present to an uneducated audience (Solar wise) the important basics of solar and its simplicity. There is allot of flexibility in the structure from the basic text, images, comics style drawings (Humor), etc., etc... no borders except to convey concepts easily.

Like many technical areas, solar has been struggling to do the above suggestion. There are many books, articles, pictures, on and on trying to convey these ideas. But given the general publics long attention span, I thought if you could actually convey unbiased info of importance on a single sheet, and make it "entertaining", well, it couldn't hurt.....

Yes sure. As I said wide open, not just in format but input points as well. I can't draw, at least not comics and free-form stuff. Comics can be small yet dense with meaning and conveyance. The trick at least for me is to make it dense with info yet still KISS and entertaining. I have a feeling that is NOT going to be easy....
I will try to spit out the draft ASAP.... so within the next month...lol....(I will try for a few days or so).

Ok. I found myself thinking about this and I kind of went into creative mode (Not my choice) and this came out. It is crude, but I think it will at least give you a "feel" of the kind of things spinning around in my head. I wish I could draw cartoon stuff, but alas....
I use analogies allot for explaining concepts. I think they convey well. I will put this whole think as a .jpg.
The actual content is between lines 1 and 2 and between 3 and 4.

I would suggest clicking on the image before attempting reading.

FINALLY a Solar Powered Car that NEVER needs to charge!  How Simple is that?   KISS.

Keep It Simple Solar - Sailors of the world

World Riders    ( Poem ( Song) Written  by Timothy McBride 1989 )

World riders collide, elevations below grade flows a liquid many ingredient most unknown,
must we be shown drunken brains some insanes ?

Hear the pump beat down the street, ride the wheel down the hill. Jumping people in the air,
hear the music from within, stop to rest and sunning.

Chart the course to distant lands, elevations above grade, asphalt rivers flowing,
world riders going most just seeking funning.

" Fill it up  Sir, O Yea forgot self-serve, pay before pumping. "

Pit stop, pit, pit, pit, pit, stop,  world riders colliders, suiciders.

Astronauts shouting warnings from the sky. Plants are turning towards the sun, wondering why ?
Rays of light waving, waving goodbye.  See ya soon a great lunch, load up the bunch we're in a crunch !

Broken glass, foggy stare, expressionless beings everywhere, empty faces doesn't care, empty crops.
What to do?  Worn out shoes besides the roads of dirt. Sleeping in a pit with high elevations above grade, strange sounds drifting like stones world riders rolling, rolling, rolling along to sudden stops.

Take out the trash self-serve styrofoam, plastic mountain for the tourist to see. Plastic Mountain! Landfills, land feels bad, land feels sad. Land feels its tired of landfills, toxic waste, total disgrace, no grace found in this place.

Land feels like crying for the world riders, colliders.  Think a bit, just a bit. Climb the pit, the pit, the pit, the petrol pit.  Kiss off, piss off the winds, tornado hurricane begins, doldrums end. World Sailors sailing again when,

"  Come look Sir ! Its Land!  Behold Its Land !
Come ashore, untie your ropes, rest those bones.
Find your song, or sing along.

Nothings wrong, nothings wrong,  shifting gears.
O Yeah there is nothing wrong !
Mother Earth will heal herself in about a thousand years. "

    Heck Yah!    K.I.S.S.  *

OK. This is the next part, Off-grid. The cartoon drawings were hard, especially the idea of an inverter/charger combo.
But the text is pretty straight forward. There is a whole lot you can say about off grid from many directions, but my goal was NOT TO GIVE THEM a Stephen King nightmare.

    KISS off grid

Things are getting pretty serious out there these days weather wise to the point that solar panels will need hardened and protected big time.  Plus there is a revolution going on out there right now with wireless transmission where solar systems could evolve exponentially towards this realization where a lot of the current extra electronics will become obsolete with advanced internal wireless power cell appliances. Just bringing on  looney tunes  might not be the answer or the way to keep things as simple as they could be.  Nevertheless entertaining,  yet hopefully short of a Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, scenario,  lets hope we won't need to call on a  Marvels Superhero, or confront Marvin the Martian. The Truth is Out There but Yah,   Stephen King Okay !   You should call him up as probably would have some great ideas for your cartoon project.

The King of Horror, who spends his winters on Casey Key, wheeled his Chevrolet Volt -- black, of course -- into the city of Sarasota's new Palm Avenue parking garage. He pulled into one of four free electric-vehicle charging stations on the first floor of the 700-car garage, switched off his car, and plugged in the long orange extension cord draped on the wall next to the space On the roof of the building, a 10-kilowatt array of solar electric panels was generating much of the power for the garage, including the charging stations.

    Stephen King said,

" I just love it because every time you do it, it is like saying to the oil cartel, 'Here, stick this in your eye,'"

Master of horror Stephen King likes his Chevy Volt and Sarasota

" I have seen several job sites now with unbelievable damaged panels from hail storms or wind storms and the question is...does your insurance cover the cost of recycling damaged solar panels? "

    Says,  Emilie Oxel O'Leary   of
     Green Clean Solar,

    Green Clean Solar

Remember EVs are wireless power plants actually, and they are all over the place but can collectively become virtual power plants for a community, a town, or a city.

Yah that is a fact Jack, a lot of things indeed.
Been following the development of this type solar technology  -  When bad weather is in the area these type things could simply  be programmed to tuck themselves out of harms way. Talk about a new age of " Flower "  children from a different prospective.

An Austrian company has launched the latest version of their "Smartflower" system: A flower-shaped solar panel array that tracks the sun and is completely portable.

    Hi Bill,

My apologies for the delayed response here. Your draft is excellent! Where do you envision this document could potentially go? Is there anything ASES can help with? I can try and play around with finding a cartoon inverter charger combo?

I really appreciate how the goal is to present to an audience that is new to solar. ASES is in the process of coming up with a SOLAR 101 Toolkit to help folks understand and go solar, and our goal is to also keep it as simple as possible.

Thank you for all that you do!

Hi: I to have been trying to work getting my barn array actually off the ground and onto its East/West roof location.

Had to upgrade my house/barn circuit breaker. With the full 18 panels on the ground (upgraded from 14), I blew the 50A breaker yesterday so I ordered a 70A which should deal with it and anything else I happen to add, like my eventual wind turbine.

SO I have not progressed any more on the KISS flyer. I think to make it what it needs to be (In my mind), cartoon drawings that are exactly what I have in my mind, need to come to reality.

The how of course is the problem. Such a "flyer' could go hand in hand with any other info designed to simply RE and of course solar, for everyday people.

Thank you for the update! I looked up platforms that can create a cartoon from scratch, and there seem to be a few good ones: Adobe Animate, Moho (formerly Anime Studio), and OpenToonz. I'm happy to see if I can create a cartoon from any of those platforms if you think that would be helpful! I don't want to step on your toes by any means, and of course, there's no rush at all on my end. I am just excited about this flyer!

    Thanks so much,

    Ella

Hello, I like the concept of K.I.S.S. As Florence van Dresser always said, " you don't need a chain saw to cut butter"! With that in mind i wants to share my trash solar, sunny honey de crystalizer.  Its not going to solve the energy crisis but we all have jars of crystalized honey on the shelf. It took a few minutes to make with junk laying around. A used gal plastic bag, shirt cardboard and tin foil. Less then a dollar. It all folds down into the bag for storage. A simple kitchen thermometer to keep it below 120 degrees will keep the nutrients from degrading. With cost and effort, we can improve the efficiency but it works fine as is K.I.S.S. Mark Chalom,
