I'm looking for any studies on the benefit of siting battery storage at utility sub-stations. Case studies of actual installations would be preferred.

I'm submitting testimony in a utility rate case, where they are installing storage in big lumps (200 MW/800 MWh) at former coal power plant locations. I'm convinced that smaller units col-located with stressed substations would be more advantageous, but I need citations!

    Hi John,

I don't know of specific studies, I met Sam Maslin from Eddy Energy at a two day energy summit at Stanford and he's working on energy storage at the distributed level:

He should know of studies, I think it is a great application of energy storage.  Good luck, Brian
