  • 1.  Sunny Boy Inverter

    My inverter installed in 2007 displays an IMAX Disturbance message. I noticed it wasn't generating consistently a couple of days ago. Do any of you know of a good repair person for SMA Inverters?

    That's an over current message from the AC side. Did the inverter power up "normally" the next day? Or, is it a constant message that won't go away?

    Your welcome. That error can happen from time to time. As long as its clears, you should be fine. If it starts "popping" up more frequently, it may indicate a problem on the load side "somewhere", or maybe an actual inverter issue.

        I have an 'off-grid' solar home here in Maine, and we replaced our inverter in 2009, with a Trace 2500.  After 20 years, it was acting a bit 'funny' ... so I called the Trace folks on the west coast, who informed me that the original warranty was only for 10 years ... and that I should just be happy and buy another inverter ! Well, I decided to check all the components in our system, and did a few small adjustments, and the inverter did respond ... I'm still using the same Trace, now for over 23 years ! I have another inverter (used Xantrex), available for if and when the Trace poops out ! Good luck with your SMA model ! It may be difficult to find a 'service' person for 'any' inverter that old ! Be well, and get a 'backup' inverter to have on hand !

    John - thanks for your reply.
    This same inverter stopped working after 10 yrs. I was also told it was due to expire. I had an electrician out ( no longer here) and he fixed it.
    Since my posting I have discovered some local businesses who specialize in system repairs. I haven't contacted them yet because my SMA started working normally again. I am keeping an eye on it!
