SunPower bankruptcy

  • 1.  SunPower bankruptcy

    Posted 09-23-2024 12:12 PM
Our solar panels are working well. However, the provider, SunPower, just sent a letter saying that they are bankrupt and will/may no longer provide support.
When I sent out a note to our neighborhood group, someone replied and said that I should send a breach of contract letter to Sunpower and file a copy with the local court, citing the federal case number.
Our main concern lies in getting repairs done if needed. Any advice on Filing with a lawyer and/or getting repairs?
    Thanks
    Salim

I'm surprised this hasn't gotten any responses. This is going to be a significant number of customers, and a black eye for the ongoing development of the industry if panel owners suddenly have no support.

Actually I did get a very helpful reply. Forget the name just now. Surprise that you did not get to see it. thanks for asking.
Told me that Maxon had purchased the residential part of Sunpower and agreed to maintenance costs if needed. He also added that this was a good product and I should not worry. Very kind.

There are third party providers that will do your warranty "stuff" I already had this happen with the titan solar collapse. The warranty is on the manufacturer's product, not sunpower as a provider.
but if you want to sue them for "breach of contract" I'm gonna guess your at the back of a very long line 🤷🏻‍♂️ best of luck to you !

    Thanks for your advice Travis.
Richard Stromberg privately gave a very helpful reply about Maxeon having agreed to accept all SunPower residential maintenance .

    HI Salim,

Im not sure if Im replying to the correct thread. But I got Sunpower last year  (December 2023) and until today the electric company has not received the last document they need to finish my solar panels setup. I asked Sunpower and since they went bankruptcyy they can't do anythig for now. I wanted to file a complaint in my state consumer portal but I am not sure if this will be helpful. For the moment Im paying my electric bill plus Sunpower financing loan.

    Dear Soliderma,
Very sorry to hear about your situation with Sunpower. As our electric connection was approved about a year before yours, I have nothing useful to say. Your situation may need a  lawyer. Paying two sets of bills seems outrageous. Let us know how things go.
    Best wishes

Does your system use micro-inverters or a string inverter?

Oh. That's too bad, string are so much easier to work on, change out, etc.. No roof needed.

I was just thinking of the repair angle for a third party action. String becomes pretty generic, and only one.

Micro inverter failure is death by 1000 cuts.. Just hope they don't fail for a long time.

    Tough situation.

How can we tell the type of our inverter by looking at the unit?

"How can we tell the type of our inverter"

In my Enphase app, if I go into Settings>System>Devices, it says I have 1 Gateway and 23 Microinverters. I presume if you have something else, it would say so?
