This morning, just in time for the summer solstice, Denver's Westword published my article about what is happening to the world's foremost renewable energy laboratory and why supporting the clean energy transition is so important.

These are challenging times for Colorado's renewable energy laboratory

The Trump administration's focus on fossil fuel ignores the critical importance of renewable energy research at NREL and other research labs.

This Administration is pure poison regarding everything. No surprise about NREL.

It is also kinda sad that when we just now opened that site to the " Denver Westward " we were bombarded with tons of Ads that are not related to the article at all. Finally after Xing off for a while the article appears. It isn't hard to connect the dots here. Timeline "  Following a United States military intervention in January 2026 that resulted in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, the Trump administration effectively took control of Venezuela's oil industry."--(Bloomberg) -- The US has authorized the sale of Iranian oil and fuels as part of an agreement to end the war against Tehran, a sweeping change after years of punitive economic sanctions. Pres. Trump says U.S. will take 'total control' of Iran's oil industry?

" Drill Baby Drill,  Yes  Drill Baby  Drill  Planet Earth created the deal with million year old sunlight instead of the bright solar age if only Mr President would turn the page? "

We toured the NREL back in 1991  an incredible piece of renewable energy history! We caught NREL, right at a massive turning point. Just a month after the International Solar Energy Society congress in Denver.

President George H.W. Bush officially elevated the facility from the Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI) to its current status as a national laboratory, doing so on September 16, 1991The field has evolved dramatically since then, now officially the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado.

Explosive Growth: In 1991, the lab had a broad but foundational mandate to move the U.S. away from petroleum dependence. Today, solar Photovoltaics ( PV)  is not just an alternative, but the fastest-growing and lowest-cost energy source in many parts of the world.

ISES Milestones: That 1991 event—which brought over 1,000 participants from nearly 70 countries to Colorado—remains a legendary gathering for the ISES Conference Proceedings Database.

If you are interested in seeing how much the industry has grown since the ISES event, you can check out the latest findings in the ASES 2024 Impact Report or explore the historical records on the National Laboratory of the Rockies. .

Trump says he may soon give order to take control of Iran's oil facilities

    Chuck,

Thanks for writing an excellent article on not only the history of SERI/NREL, but also on the global situation in which we find ourselves.
