In honor of Black History Month, we are celebrating the accomplishments of several Black leaders in the Midwest and their contributions toward a cleaner energy future. On Tuesday, February 28th, hear from our distinguished panelists as they share their experiences, successes, challenges, and advice for younger people and discuss the importance of having Black leadership and community voices in solutions moving forward.
Co-authored by UW–Madison professor Gregory Nemet, the first comprehensive assessment of the state of carbon dioxide removal highlights the need for a massive increase in new technologies that can take carbon from the atmosphere and store it indefinitely, a challenge being studied by other UW–Madison researchers.
In this Sustainable Energy Seminar, Rob Anex, Professor of Biological Systems Engineering, will discuss the potential for reducing heat-trapping gasses through carbon dioxide removal (CDR)–what is possible with conventional methods, like planting trees, and the promise of novel methods like one being developed in his lab.
Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center scientists have introduced a bacterial enzyme into bioenergy poplars to increase the amount of a valuable platform chemical.

Researchers at the UW–Madison's Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center are creating carbon-neutral fuels they hope to power the transportation sector through deconstructed, nonfood plant materials. As one of four federally-funded research hubs, the organization is part of a larger collaboration to curb climate change.
