  • 1.  PV system design in EnergyPlus

    Posted 12-16-2024 10:47 AM

Greetings everyone, We are doing a paper simulation and want to try to add related PV panels to the rooftop, window and shading system. Since we have no experience in using EnergyPlus, we want to know how to set up similar photovoltaics. Below is the link to the original paper, any answers are welcome.

Thjanks so much for sharing this, Yizhou! I'm adding our incredible PV Division leaders, @Richard Strömberg and @John Burke in case they'd like to share their insight!

I haven't used EnergyPlus. That's a building efficiency tool. I'd advise asking their tech support folks for guidance or tutorials.

Julian Wang or @Debbie Coleman might know since they are in the buildings division.

    Hi Yizhou,

Apologies for the delayed reply to your question on using EnergyPlus for PV design. Your paper looks impressive!  https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S2352710224018813

I hope you will consider submitting an abstract to present on it at SOLAR 2025.  You could probably then receive very good feedback from experts who would be exposed to your work. The deadline is January 15.

I am not experienced with EnergyPlus software so cannot provide guidance. If there any other ASES members with such expertise, please chime in with assistance or references.  I continue to like PV Watts for simple overview of PV design then typically leave the details of the system design up to the PV installer and their engineers.

Maybe the Solar Buildings Division Chair who also publishes a lot will have more insight.

    Happy New Year to all!
