    Each Tuesday at noon (Eastern) solarPVtraining.com hosts a Zoom sessions for students (or anyone, really) interested in solar.  Generally discussion focuses on technical questions, problems or troubleshooting - or just what is happening in solar that week.

    This week we take a look at solar carports - designs, costs, and advantages and disadvantages.

    Just a thought you might want to consider posting about your UPCOMING discussion rather than after the fact.  It is hard to join into a Zoom discussion after it has ended.

    Thanks Jay for this subject of solar on carports. So often the main house roof is not the best location. I have not watched your recording but did want to post that we added our solar panels on a pergola that could be used for cars, small boats or other toys. The frame of 12'x16' created a footprint of less than 200 sf which is below building permitting size for most areas although we still had it engineered.  We cantilevered out the 3x5 grid of 15 panels about 2' around the perimeter. (6)6x6 posts formed the support .  Did not add any pad since are mainly using it for plants currently - it's more like an outdoor seating area.  

    15 panels on a 12'x16' footprint.

    Very pleased with it. Insurance had no issue adding it to our policy for only a very tiny increase in premium.
