Now largely retired, I worked in support of the National Science Foundation's Polar Program for 20 years, first in Antarctica and later in the Arctic. My specialization is remote power systems. My wife and I live in a self-built, straw bale home in the Sangre de Cristo mountains of southern Colorado and have been off grid since 1995. I'm also a bit of a writer with articles published in Home Power, Solar Today, Mother Earth News and Grit magazines.
