    Hi everyone!

I have a potential job interview next week for a position with the local county housing authority.  I was told that they are looking to hire someone who can help them make their units more energy-efficient, in order to save the housing authority money.  I'm wondering if anyone knows of programs I could research that exist to support energy-efficiency upgrades.  Or if anyone has any helpful hints for me in general.  Thank you!

That's exciting to hear about your interview, Adam! You'll do great!

I'm adding Solar Buildings Divisions Leadership, @Julian Wang & @Debbie Coleman in hopes they can help!

Here are some organizations that came to mind:

    DOE Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP)

    HUD Energy Performance Contracting (EPC)

Utility rebates & demand-side management programs (local level)

State Energy Office programs - DSIRE map: https://www.dsireusa.org/resources/detailed-summary-maps/

That is exciting, Adam. You might also reach out to GreenHome Institute which has worked with various affordable housing projects throughout the U.S.  They have many resources, some are free, like the GreenStar checklist, https://greenhomeinstitute.org/home-certification-programs/greenstar-homes/greenstar-homes-certification-manual/ that you can use as a guide. The offer services to help implement the work as well. In addition, they offer a Certified Green Homes Professional course (about 15 hours), so that is something that you might want to take as well. It's free to members, and membership starts at $135 for an individual.  Lots of other educational material. ASES partners with them for the Solar Building webinars, where continuing education credits are offered.

    Good luck!

    Hi Adam,

RMI also has a plethora of resources on housing and other subjects look here :https://rmi.org/our-work/buildings/ and you might especially look at the "Green Upgrade Caculator" https://rmi.org/a-newer-and-more-powerful-green-upgrade-calculator/ for cost effective efficiency upgrades. Cheers!

Victor, thanks so much for posting about RMI's resources!  Adam, and other ASES members, if you try out the Green Upgrade Calculator, we would love to have feedback posted on the forum.  Alternatively, let's discuss at SOLAR 2026 whether it would be detailed results of the use of this or similar tools in the form of an abstract submittal for a poster or oral presentation to share your findings with others.

Debbie, Ella, Victor, THANK YOU so very much!  This is so appreciated, these resources are great!  And yes, Debbie, I would love to talk to you about using this tool to write a poster or oral presentation.  Once I get the job I will let you know, and I can use it in abundance :)  I so appreciate you all!
