William, thanks for sharing your experience. I spotted this over on the ASES email digest, and realized that I had seen the article over on CleanTechnica. I generally agree that the charging a non-Tesla could be a lot better, but I try to see the glass half-full, not half-empty. We are an all-EV household, ...

Sorry to be late to the thread, but for some reason the email digest just arrived today. Here is my 2 cents. I have 7.67 kW solar, 2 Tesla Powerwalls, and 2 EVs (a Bolt and a Rivian). We have had solar for 5 years. We live on the NC coast (mild year-round climate) so hurricane resilience is an important ...

Re charging EVs off grid, I have a Solar Edge inverter (w/o the built in EV charger) connected to 7.67 kW of panels, and 2x Tesla Powerwalls. My system is set to allow me to run what ever load I have wattage, amperage, LRA (to start heat pumps), and battery capacity to support. I can charge my Rivian ...

Interesting, William! So with respect to the voltage, are you saying 240 everywhere as in most of the rest of the world, or were you talking about higher voltage on heavy circuits? The idea of hybrid DC and AC in a house is intriguing it sorta makes sense as we have more electronics… -Joel ----- ...

No worries, Jay… I think it depends on several things…philosophically are we going to head toward Net Zero by being more profligate with consumption of even more renewables as we electrify everything, or is that big house going to be designed for energy efficiency in its inside climate management and ...

Thinking that 400 amps is required really misunderstands EV charging. I have been driving EVs for 5 years, and I currently have a 2020 Bolt and a Rivian R1T. We rarely charge at higher than 24 amps (I have a 40 amp JuiceBox on a 50 amp circuit, on a 200 amp service). Often we charge at 12 to 16 amps ...

It's also a good idea for anyone putting in solar to do their own estimates using the PVWatts calculator (https://pvwatts.nrel.gov/). For it to work, you do need to pay attention to your latitude, the roof angle(s), the azimuth of the panels, etc which will give you a baseline. Then look for roof and ...

So, I'm late to the party on this thread. But here's my 2 cents. I've had a Tesla Powerwall in service for about 4 years on a grid tied system (SolarEdge inverter, 6.09 kW panels). I'm configured with the zero export code, as my utility (a co-op) has very unattractive rates for net metering. So I keep ...
