The microinverters are Power-One, not Solar-one. Please excuse my error.

I have 11 - 250 W microinverters that I monitored yesterday, while we were in a 96.5% totality eclipse. About 15 minutes before the total eclipse the output radically dropped from produce around 2,480 W down to a total of 74 W. My outputs varied from 2 to 10 W with most of them in the 7 W range. They ...

I met Amory Lovins in the mid-seventies while he was at an Earth Day Celebration in Massachusetts that featured Buckminster Fuller & Amory. Later I was able to catch him in the next decade speaking at Bowdoin College in Brunswick Maine. He had established RMI and a couple of other spin-off organizations ...

Here is a US manufacture PV list that I lifted from Energy Sage. It's 2 years old and I don't believe that it's a complete list. < SOLAR NEWS U.S. solar panel manufacturers: a list of American-made solar panels On January 22, 2018, the Trump Administration announced a 30 percent tariff on solar ...

I am an environmentalist first, a Professional Engineer focused on energy conservation and was the CEO of a company that had had a business unit that installed a variety of solar systems including PVs, SHW and SHA systems. The world population and the petroleum economy can't be ignored by our group. ...

I think that many of the recommendations here misunderstand the demand loads of the grid. In the middle of the night threre is very little load. Power purchases are a bargain for 3rd shift power and in the spring in the northern hemisphere, with winter snow melt power has virtually no value, as hydroelectric ...

My home in Maine is connected to a very stable electric distribution system and the state has Net energy billing, and my town has a huge summer tourist load. Having a total battery backup system generally decreases the energy efficiency of PV systems by about 20%, while increasing the installed cost ...

The Solarwall is a black painted steel construction (though you can get them in other colors, if you are more interested in aesthetics, than heating) and there are some galvanized structural members that don't see the sun. There are drain holes in the bottom, as well as a lineal damper to take in outside ...

Here's a project with about 600 sf of a glazed Solar Wall solar hot air system that we installed at Wicked Joe Coffee Roasters a while back. It had about a 4 year simple payback, but it could have produce a better than 3 year SPP, had heat been needed longer that this coffee roaster's facility that had ...

If you would like my preferred list of engineering alphabet societies, the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) is a pretty good fit as they cover everything from building envelope, HVAC, lighting and all energy systems. AEE's focus is on commercial & institutional facilities, but I assume that all ...

I believe that solar thermal, hot water and hot air, systems as well as passive building design should receive as much focus as solar electric does. Solar thermal and passive solar design still is very cost effective, though solar electric systems have had a radical, factor 4 drop in price. My house ...

Installing a ground mount on coastal Maine can be rather expensive. 17 kW is a big array, so you should be getting a break from having the crew stay around and maximize their effective time on site. The installed cost also has to cover the costs of the distribution wiring from the array to your home, ...

In Maine, our former Gov, Paul LePage, was not a fan or solar, nor the environment. We got him to authorize a Value of solar study in 2016 using the NREL model, but included his anti-solar people on the task group and using his approved very conservative value for environmental costs many at not even ...

The real time value of solar energy, being coincident to the grid's daily peak demand and being distributed near its electrical end uses makes it more valuable than the Net Energy credits, so let's just keep it simple. The studies that were completed by many states around the country a few years ago ...
