If a homeowner could sell the tax credits like companies do it would go a long way to helping. Many if not most of the 30% tax credit for commercial scale installations are sold rather than used by the owner. Residential should have the same option. It would be one solution. None of this solves the problems of people that don’t need or can’t take a tax deduction. Low income, disabled, retired, non-property owners, none of these programs help these individuals, many of whom need it the most. David Power Katy Tx Retired

So auto correct got me again. This was to be about porch mounted solar panels, not ovens. I have used solar cookers and even built a few but this post was supposed to refer to the new Utah law that allows apartment dwellers to install some solar panels on their porches and just plug into the wall to ...

I've know that in Germany that solar oven panels on apartment porches that just plug into the wall have been growing by leaps and bounds. I recently found out that Utah passed legislation that allows this, first state in the US to do so. I worked on several low income solar initiatives in the past but ...

You’ll need to check state laws. Many states do not allow a power supply line to cross a property line. It violates a clause known as retail wheeling. Texas law prohibits this, check with your utility. If there is vehicle access to the parking lot the cost of the supporting structure will likely be ...

I live in the Houston area. Because of the significant amounts of pollen combined with the air pollution my panels get a sticky coating on them after a year or so. During a re-roof I had a chance to have the panels thoroughly cleaned. I've had them cleaned on the roof by a local contractor previously. ...

That makes a bit of sense, but if you go with a micro you could continue to use your existing panels and just add new ones to add the capacity you have. My sun power panels have degraded a bit but not that much. I recently had a reroof done and my local insulation t crew took the system down and reinstalled ...

One of the reasons I went with the Chilicon micro inverters is that they handle 2 panels per inverter. They also have a capacitor free design. Caps are usually the first component to go. My panels originally came with a different micro inverter installed at the factory. They had a batch that was failing ...

I'd like to know why you're retiring your system. Is it down on power or are you just upgrading the electronics and want to add in battery storage. My old house has a 10kw system that's 20 years old and used a sunny boy that I still believe is in service. My current system is much more modest, it's a ...

The only surprise that we have had is how dirty the panels have gotten over the years. We had them cleaned twice now but they are no longer shiny and pretty. But it hasn't really affected the output much. It's mostly the sticky pollen mixed with the air pollutants the Houston is known for. We just let ...

No it doesn't get hotter under the panels, I had some sensor up there for a while, it's actually cooler under the panels. I wanted to see how much heat would degrade their rated performance. It really didn't, they over perform when it's cold but even at 120f they met their specifications. No worry about ...

We have some feral cats in the neighborhood that like to hang out under the solar panels at night and when it rains. They must keep the other critters at bay. We had lots of squirrels living in the trees in the backyard before the hurricane last year but never had any issues with nests or even wasps ...

I've found that you should get multiple bids on any major home expense. I recently needed my entire A/C system replaced. I used to do commercial bids, I ended up with 16 bids. The price range was $15k to $45k all for the exact same specifications. Sadly the majority of the bids were for very low grade ...
