Hi Mark, How did you resolve this issue? I recently came across some of these 72 and 142 watt Sharp modules in a donation to our nonprofit. My guess is that Sharp designed these to be wired in series and so long as the watts per string were less than 600V and each string was the same total watts, your ...

I suspect the companies are reticent to commit to supporting the O&M of a system that they did not personally install. This would be especially true to utilities for whom residential solar installation is not a part of their core business model or competencies. -Rich ------------------------------ ...

Hi Bill, I like the PowerField solution as you can use local fill for the ballast and it keeps the modules tilted so they better shed water/snow (although in heavy snows your modules will still be covered). I would strongly advise against any ground-mount system that places the modules horizontal ...

It mostly depends on the microinverters used and how much they clip power. It is common to pair up a 230-watt module with a 190-watt microinverter (Enphase IQ6 or 7). If this person is only getting 28kW output for 40kW of installed capacity, there will be a bit of ungenerated power due to the sun angle ...

We should temper our use of these numbers for PV module degradation, both in general and even for this particular system. Their method of using HOMER to quantify the annual output degradation will mask true module degradation. HOMER wasn't actually design to do that (note that as the former Alaska ...

The best folks to respond to this are the good folks at ESIG (energy systems integration group). Speak with Charlie Smith or Debra Lew. Home - ESIG ESIG works with the ISO/RTOs, large RE developers, large utilities and RE equipment manufacturers to figure out how to get high contributions of renewables ...

You would want to place a load controller between the batteries and DC electric heater. You could also run 120-volt AC electric heaters through an AC-DC inverter. Sent from my iPhone

Greetings Sunny Boy users! I was inspecting a solar array for a school yesterday. They wanted me to investigate a discrepancy between energy produced and energy billed under their PPA with the system owner. All 9 of the Sunny Boy 10000TL-US inverters had functioning LEDs but none of the displays worked. ...

I was inspecting a friend's rooftop array in Albuquerque last fall. He also didn't know who the installer was or the module type. Fortunately, PNM (or the state electrical inspector) requires that a weather-proof tube be mounted next to the production meter on the outside of the house containing the ...

I've lived off-grid since 2006. For off-grid folks, we have the advantage of knowing fairly quickly if something fails. I can't speak for other states but in Colorado, the utilities I have worked with require that they (the utility) installs a producton meter. An electrician or solar installer can set the meter recepticle but only the utilty can install the actual production meter. Maybe just using a single photo of ...

Maybe you could move the Gen Vue 1 over to the solar circuits for a few days (full sunny day would allow you to compare against PVWatts hourly estimates for the same sunny day) to do a system evaluation and then move your monitor back to the original location. ------------------------------ Rich Stromberg ...

Hi Mike. The challenge with this particular Emporia device is that it is communicating with the utility meter and at that measuring point, the only thing you can discern is the amount of power being pulled from the grid or the amount of surplus solar being pushed to the grid. An exception would be if ...

Hi Wyldon, I think apps associated with inverters and microinverters are great for getting curious system owners to monitor their own systems. These are very powerful. For those with older systems who would like to monitor their array output live, we have installed some low-cost Emporia Vue monitors ...
